Deborah Sachs: BLOG/NEWS

look! it's Halley's Comet! - April 27, 2008

well, if not, it was just as rare and awe-some a thrill and beyond imagination to recently reunite with Linda Thieneman and Chris Noga and many other dear friends on April 18th for Cabaret in Louisville! All the new photos I've added to the website from that night are courtesy of Michael Renauer. Thanks Michael!!!

Linda & Chris and the Unbound Band (Tim Noga, Steve Renauer & Barret Wilson) helped me perform a cover of a new tune written by Wendy Waldman of the Refugees called "Unbound." Check out their Myspace page for tour dates and news of their debut CD coming soon.

Welcome Spring! - March 23, 2008

Happy Easter, Everyone! Around our country I know many have been dealing with the Lion-like aspects of this month, but here's hoping that the gentle Lamb of Springtime will cuddle with you soon.

Here in sunny southern California we have had March Madness to distract us and a steady stream of Spring Break visitors!

I feel it is very appropriate that, here at the top of this season of new life, I am finally restoring some order to my home studio. It has been a profound time of adjustment for me, but I am finding my rhythm and am excited about some new musical ideas and works that I have in process.

Will try to post more regularly and encourage you to keep in touch.

Louisville Jazz at its Best - February 13, 2008

What a fantastic headline and lead in for the latest review of "Pure Imagination" now appearing in the February 2008 issue of Louisville Music News. Thanks to Daniel Gilliam for sharing his impressions and shining a little bit more of the local spotlight on the incredible studio musicians that so graciously brought my music off the page.

If you are not in Louisville or able to pick up your own copy of the newspaper, please take some time and read the whole issue online. Jump over to the "WEBSITES TO VISIT" page and click on the link that we have provided for you!

NEWS AND VIEWS! - January 11, 2008

a HUGE Thank You to Mr. Daniel Gilliam for sending me a preview of his upcoming review of "Pure Imagination" set to appear in the February issue of Louisville Music News. Daniel is a multi talented vocalist, composer and music professor/connoisseur who announces & produces for WUOL. Be sure to click on the Press link for a sneak peak at what he enjoyed most about 'Pure Imagination!'

AND THEN--let me hear what you like. It is most challenging for a new unknown artist to get a review published in the mainstream press, so I would like to invite all of you who have heard 'Pure Imagination' to visit CDBaby.com and post your own review there.

You don't have to be a professional journalist or art critic to know what you like and to tell others about it! And, I would really like to hear from you. I will keep checking CD Baby and will transfer your reviews here to the website as well if you will kindly help me spread the word. thanks!!! ds

'Singing/Laughter in the Rain' Medley Featured on Jazz Sampler - December 21, 2007

It was a pleasure to work with Oasis Disc Manufacturing to produce 'Pure Imagination' and they recently made good again on one of their very unique Tools of Promotion specially designed for independent artists.

Just a few weeks ago, Oasis mailed out 800 copies of a compilation CD that they produced inhouse called "The Jazz Radio Sampler, Volume VII, # 6." It went to radio stations around the country that include the jazz format and to other industry insiders that look forward to hearing new artists.

In theory, you should now be able to phone your local jazz radio program and request at least one Deborah Sachs tune and they will be able to play 'Singing in the Rain/Laughter in the Rain' if they receive the Oasis Disc Mfg Jazz Sampler!

The Rain medley is in fine company on the Sampler and sounds extra spectacular. As I am able to contact and follow up with the recipients, I will keep you posted on the reactions around the USA!

JAZZ NEWS - December 14, 2007

Hello Friends! Below I have copied a press release that was published by Sky Jazz Internet Radio. Here is the link also if you would like to go directly to their very cool site and enjoy exploring on your own.

Deborah Sachs - Pure Imagination

The newest record label in Louisville announces the November 9, 2007 release of "Pure Imagination," the debut CD from vocalist and songwriter, Deborah Sachs. This revealing collection of jazz-inflected originals and arrangements present an intimate snapshot of a convincing recording artist with considerable vocal talent and a rich inner life. Her innovative medley of "Singing in the Rain" and "Laughter in the Rain," set to a Bossa nova groove, fit her romantic spirit and supple velvety alto like a made to order second skin.

Ravishing support throughout comes from her virtuoso rhythm section—especially the sensational piano, Hammond B-3, and Fender Rhodes work from session leader, Todd Hildreth. The assortment and blending of styles along with the consistent high quality chops of singer and combo instantly entrance and draw the listener inside a smoothly winding labyrinth of ESCAPIST Jazz, Blues and Swing tunes and rhythms that range from delicate, intimate & lilting to swinging and sassy.

WINNER of Favorite Artist Poll - December 3, 2007

Thanks to all who voted for my CD last week at SkyJazz.com. I won the Favorite Artist election and some double-exposure for my music!

Last week's program presented a song I wrote called 'Come to Me.' (If you missed hearing it, go to the Music page where it is available as a free download.) Starting today, another song from "Pure Imagination" called 'Cowboy Junkie' will be presented at the top of the Discovery program for the week of December 3-9.

The link to the SkyJazz program is at the top of the navigation bar. I hope you will visit their site and thank them for giving undiscovered music a chance to be heard. My CD is now in their library, so you can email them with requests year round!

RADIO AIR PLAY - November 21, 2007

I have just learned that a cut from the CD has been programmed by Sky Jazz for airplay beginning today-- November 26th--for a whole week!!! SkyJazz is an internet radio station in Canada that dedicates an entire program, called "Discovery" to new and undiscovered artists.

The DJ selected one of the songs I wrote called "Come to Me." He tells a little bit about my background and gives the names of all the wonderful players who appear on the CD.

I hope you will download the program to enjoy whenever you might be working at your computer this week. One click on the Links page will take you straight to the program.

While you are there you can also click and VOTE for your favorite artist. If enough of you vote for me, I will be featured at the top of next week's program as well. How cool is that???

So please forward this email to your family and friends who enjoy discovering new music & ask them to vote, too.

I've copied below the email from Mike Smith about putting my CD into rotation!

'Hello Bonavita Records, I received Deborah Sach's CD and I will be playing a track from it in my Discovery show through the week of November 26. After that the CD will reside in our library and be played again in future programs. In addition, I have placed a link to her website on our Artists Websites page.

try before you buy - October 26, 2007

There are a couple of new photos in the gallery. First is a pic of the super talented Chris Noga who came up with the perfect "pedal-steel" vocal harmonies for Cowboy Junkie. I never would have thought of it on my own. What amazing fun it is always to sing with her.

The other new shot shows my son, David, at ear X-tacy on Bardstown Road where my CD is posted up with headphones! Tell your friends to drop in, have a listen and grab their very own copy to help support independent music--thanks! ds

Now you can discover my CD of escapist Jazz/Blues/Swing music when you step back in time to an era of southern hospitality and graciousness with a visit to Graytower Flowers in Anchorage.

I am so excited to announce another opportunity for sharing my music in Louisville. Thanks to the gifted designer and owner of Graytower Flowers, Barbara McKay, you can purchase a copy of "Pure Imagination" in her charming shoppe on Evergreen Road.

It is a one stop location for exquisite consigned antiques and collectibles along with an abundance of her signature floral designs, topiaries and more.

Brick & Mortar Distribution - October 12, 2007

Be sure to spread the word to your friends that Starbucks is not the only outfit discovering and promoting emerging musical artists.

The big news this week is that all you folks in Louisville can now pick up a copy of "Pure Imagination" at your local cornucopia of aural delight, ear X-tacy on Bardstown Road! No need to wait for the release concert or to order through the mail! The store is a huge supporter of local artists and will also be installing a store copy on the wall with headphones.

blog-o-rama - October 10, 2007

HELLO--If you are browsing the news notes, I would love to hear from you. Plans are in the works for an email list to be able to reach my music friends in a more personal way.

Meanwhile, I want friends of "Pure Imagination" to know that, until I can set up a separate blog page, I will either add some new photos or be posting an update here every Friday. So, do come back often and let me hear some of your news when you have time to write.

California Dreaming - October 4, 2007

Fall of 2007 will remain in my memory as a season of new beginnings and mixed emotions. I am beyond excited to be releasing my first CD this November but also feeling the bitter-sweetness of major life changes. All of our children have left home and we are in the process of downsizing and moving to Laguna Beach, CA after living in Louisville, KY for the past 25 years. We just closed on the sale of our home today.

Kevin is a partner and CFO in the newly formed company, Altamar Ventures, located in Corona Del Mar. Check out my links page to learn more of their very own Right™ gin from Sweden that is being introduced across the country as we speak.
